The KGEI transmitter was built by GE specifically for the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco in 1939. As a shortwave transmitter it was a novelty for its time. It was originally operated under the amateur/experimental call sign W6XBE, changed to KGEI during the Exposition (see photos #203 and #204). Carlos U. Benedetti is announcing in Spanish in the control room. FEBC did not acquire KGEI until 1959.
