Missionaries who have been evacuated from China arrive in Manila, and are met by FEBC and other Christian agencies. Some will live at FEBC and do broadcasts for China. The SS General W.H. Gordon was a US Navy troop transport ship which was leased to the American President Lines (APL) after World War II. In 1949, the ship helped evacuate foreign missionaries from China as Mao Tse Tung established the PRC and attempted to stamp out religion. The General Gordon is said to be the last foreign ship to leave Shanghai. Official information and a complete history of this ship can be found at the U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command website.
