Saipan Modulator Upgrade Project: (Day 1). The work got under way with the first transmitter on January 15, 2007. Its purpose was to upgrade the three Saipan Continental 100kw transmitters with a more efficient modulator system for the purpose of significant savings in electricity. The first order of business was the removal the existing modulator circuitry from the transmitter.
The transmitter high voltage power supply had to be removed in its entirety. This supply provides 13,000 volts DC for the operation of the final modulator stage as well as final RF amplifier stage of the transmitter.
